Osimhen scores as Galatasaray outclass Rizespor

Galatasaray moved closer to retaining their Turkish Super Lig title with a comfortable 3-0 win over Rizespor at the Caykur Didi Stadium. Victor Osimhen scored his 15th goal of the season in all competitions to cap a dominant team performance. The visitors started strongly and forced Rizespor into early mistakes. Ibrahim Olawoyin was booked in the second minute for a tactical foul to stop a quick Galatasaray counterattack. Soon after, Gabriel Sara struck the woodwork with a powerful effort as the champions pushed for the opener. Galatasaray’s pressure paid off in the 19th minute. Rooney warns struggling Tottenham face relegation fight

Wayne Rooney says Tottenham Hotspur are now in a relegation fight after their poor Premier League form continued with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United. The loss extended Spurs’ winless run in the league to seven matches and left them 15th in the table, six points above the relegation zone. Tottenham finished 17th last season, a disappointing campaign that led to the sacking of Ange Postecoglou despite the club winning the Europa League. Rooney said on his show that, given their current form and position, it is realistic to say they are battling to avoid the drop. He noted that clubs such as West Ham and Nottingham Forest are picking up results, which increases the pressure on Spurs as they look over their shoulders. Rooney stressed that Tottenham cannot ignore the danger they are in if results do not improve […]

Obi leads NASS protest over real time result transmission

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Monday led a protest at the National Assembly demanding the restoration of real time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. The protest, tagged Occupy the National Assembly, drew hundreds of members of the Obidient Movement and civil society groups, who described the removal of the phrase real time as a setback for electoral transparency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Senate had recently passed the Electoral Act 2022 Repeal and Reenactment Amendment Bill 2026, but critics faulted the decision to delete real time from sections on electronic transmission of results. They argued that this change could weaken safeguards against vote manipulation. Lawmakers have insisted that electronic transmission of results remains in the law, but protesters said removing the real time clause could allow post election interference […]

Nigeria’s future must be decided by Nigerians, says ex-Canterbury Archbishop

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rt. Rev. Justin Welby, says Nigeria’s future must be determined by Nigerians themselves, warning against any actions that undermine the country’s sovereignty. Welby spoke at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, during a public lecture titled “Building Inter-Ethnic and Religious Harmony in Nigeria: Pathways to National Unity,” held as part of activities for ABU’s 45th convocation. He stressed that defending Nigeria’s sovereignty is a shared responsibility that goes beyond government to include political, economic, spiritual, social, legal and traditional leaders. According to him, genuine inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony requires honestly confronting Nigeria’s weaknesses, seeking help where necessary and engaging the international community with clear purpose. He cautioned that dreams of national unity would remain “vain” unless they are grounded in the nation’s history and reflect its political, economic and social realities, as well as global influences. Welby outlined […]

‘Only Trump can stop the war’: Ukraine FM pushes to speed up peace talks

Ukraine’s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha says Kyiv wants to speed up U.S. brokered peace talks with Russia, arguing that only U.S. President Donald Trump has the political weight to seal a final deal. In an interview in Kyiv, Sybiha said Ukraine and Russia must hold a face to face leaders’ summit to resolve the toughest remaining issues in a 20 point peace framework that has guided recent trilateral negotiations. He warned that campaigning for the U.S. mid term elections in November could soon distract Washington, so Ukraine is keen to “capitalise on momentum” in the talks. On core territorial questions, he said the sides remain far apart, with Russia demanding that Ukraine formally hand over the remaining 20% of Donetsk it has yet to occupy and Kyiv insisting on regaining control of all its land, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Iran insists on uranium enrichment right, open to confidence-building

Iran has said any renewed nuclear talks with the United States must recognise its right to enrich uranium on its own soil, while signalling readiness to take steps that reassure the world its programme will remain peaceful. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told reporters in Dubai that “zero enrichment can never be accepted” and that negotiations should focus on allowing enrichment inside Iran alongside mechanisms to build trust over its civilian nature. He spoke after indirect talks with US officials in Oman, held against the backdrop of a US naval buildup near Iran and Tehran’s warnings of a harsh response if attacked. Araqchi noted that five previous rounds of talks stalled mainly over enrichment, even before the United States struck Iranian nuclear facilities following a 12 day Israeli bombing campaign last June. Tehran says it has since halted enrichment, which Washington […]

Trump refuses to apologise for racist clip of Obamas

US President Donald Trump has refused to apologise for a video posted on his Truth Social account depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys, even as outrage over the racist imagery spread across the political spectrum. The one minute clip, which promoted conspiracy theories about Trump’s 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, briefly showed the faces of the Obamas superimposed on monkeys, drawing condemnation from Democrats and senior Republicans. The White House first dismissed criticism as “fake outrage,” describing the clip as an internet meme casting Trump as “King of the Jungle” and Democrats as characters from The Lion King. Hours later officials claimed a staff member had “erroneously” posted the video and said it was taken down, but Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he would not apologise and insisted he had not seen the offensive segment.
