Mo Abudu denies cinema sabotage claims amid industry debate

EbonyLife Group founder Mo Abudu has dismissed allegations that Nigerian cinemas deliberately sabotage certain Nollywood films, insisting that screening decisions are driven by audience turnout and business realities, not favouritism. Speaking on Arise Television alongside actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Abudu addressed rising complaints from producers like Toyin Abraham, Niyi Akinmolayan and Ini Edo, who accuse some cinemas of sidelining their movies with poor time slots, reduced screens and attempts to divert viewers to rival titles. Omotola acknowledged that she has repeatedly heard such complaints from actors and fans who say they were pressured to watch different films from the ones they intended to see. Abudu stressed that she could not defend all operators but maintained that EbonyLife Cinemas does not engage in such practices and operates strictly as a professional, profit driven venture. Nigerian music legend 2Baba has hailed Burna Boy as the leading Afrobeats star of the moment, saying he currently operates on a different level from peers like Wizkid and Davido. Speaking on the ‘Mic On’ podcast, 2Baba said he enjoys music from all three but, if forced to choose, he sees Burna Boy as “on the top of the game right now.” He likened judging artists to comparing painters with different styles and stressed that such rankings are ultimately a matter of taste. He explained that his view is based on his understanding of the global music landscape rather than the artists’ personal wealth or private achievements, which he said he cannot measure. US lawmaker warns separatist push could hurt Christians

United States Congressman Riley M. Moore has rejected claims that Washington supports any move to break up Nigeria, warning that separatist campaigns would worsen insecurity and put Christian communities in greater danger. In a post on his verified X account, Moore said he travelled to Nigeria and held high level meetings with government officials, church leaders, aid groups and internally displaced persons to better understand the persecution of Christians. He noted that during all these engagements, the idea of dividing Nigeria “did not come up in any serious way.” Moore warned that efforts to embolden separatists would hurt Christians, especially in the North and Middle Belt. Wike to critics: your successors will also betray you

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has warned political office holders who back acts of betrayal that their own successors will eventually turn against them.
