Rivers Assembly stops impeachment move against Fubara, deputy

The Rivers State House of Assembly has stopped the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu. The lawmakers took the decision during their resumed plenary on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the state capital. The move follows the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who stepped in to calm rising political tension in the state. The Assembly had earlier begun impeachment moves against the governor and his deputy over alleged gross misconduct. The allegations included demolition of the Assembly complex and spending state funds without legislative approval, among other claims. The decision to halt the process is seen as a temporary relief in the political crisis that has gripped Rivers State in recent weeks. Observers say the suspension creates room for dialogue and possible reconciliation between the executive and the legislature. Details of any agreement that led to […]

UK examining Epstein’s use of airport for trafficking

British police are assessing whether convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women through London Stansted Airport on private flights, as part of a newly coordinated national effort to examine his ties to the United Kingdom. Essex Police said they are reviewing information that emerged from millions of pages of U.S. government documents on Epstein released at the end of January, focusing on records of private flights into and out of Stansted. The force stressed that the work is currently an “assessment,” not yet a full criminal investigation, but forms part of a wider UK coordination group set up to support forces looking at Epstein’s links to Britain and British nationals. Stansted Airport, for its part, noted that it does not manage private flight operations itself and that immigration and customs checks are handled by the UK Border Force. Interest in […]

Ukraine–Russia peace talks in Geneva enter second day amid pressure on Kyiv

Negotiators from Ukraine and Russia were due to begin a second day of U.S mediated peace talks in Geneva on Wednesday, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy complaining that Washington was putting undue pressure on Kyiv to accept a deal to end the four year war. The talks, hosted at a Swiss government villa on the shores of Lake Geneva, are focused on the highly sensitive question of territory and the possible outlines of a ceasefire and future security arrangements. Zelenskiy said in a late night address that Tuesday’s opening round had been “difficult,” accusing Russia of trying to drag out negotiations that he believes could already be close to a final stage, while also hinting that some U.S proposals went further than he was comfortable with. “Ukraine will not be forced into any agreement that legitimises occupation,” he said, while […]

Destiny Etiko slams colleague over alleged betrayal, ‘fabricated lies’

Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has publicly called out a fellow colleague over what she describes as a painful betrayal marked by fabricated lies and character defamation. In an emotional Instagram post, Etiko said the unnamed actress “fabricated so many lies” against her simply because people were praising her for being a good and devoted daughter to her mother. Etiko revealed that the colleague later reached out to ask for forgiveness, but she insisted that while she has chosen to forgive, she cannot forget the damage done to her name. She lamented that the false stories led to numerous disturbing calls to her mother, leaving the older woman saddened and disappointed that someone who professes Christianity could allegedly behave that way. “I can’t remember hurting you. I have forgiven but I can’t forget. I’m pained because my mom has received a […]

Afrobeats stars Tems and Burna Boy have made history by becoming the African artists with the most entries ever on the prestigious U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Nigerian duo have now each recorded eight appearances on the Hot 100, moving past South African rock band Seether, who previously shared the record with seven entries. Their latest milestone came through guest features on American rapper J. Cole’s new album, “The Fall-Off.” “Bounce Road Blues,” featuring Tems and Future, debuted at number 34, while “Only You,” which features Burna Boy, entered at number 78, pushing both singers to eight Hot 100 credits apiece. For Tems, the achievement caps a remarkable run on the U.S. charts this year. Teniola Aladese challenges gender stereotypes around domestic work

Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has sparked debate after openly challenging the idea that domestic chores should fall mainly on women in marriages and relationships. Speaking during a recent podcast, she questioned why men still shy away from basic housework despite the fact that women now also work and “hustle” outside the home just like their partners. “Why can’t a man wash plate?” Aladese asked, criticising the long held expectation that a woman must cook, wash dishes and handle most of the cleaning while the man simply provides financially. She argued that this imbalance becomes even more unfair when both partners contribute to the household income but only the woman is expected to shoulder the domestic burden. The actress acknowledged that older generations may have accepted such divisions of labour but insisted that “times have changed” and that modern realities demand […]

UEFA opens investigation into alleged racial abuse of Vinicius Junior

UEFA has launched a formal investigation into alleged racial abuse directed at Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior during their Champions League knockout playoff clash against Benfica in Lisbon. The match at Estadio da Luz was halted early in the second half after the Brazilian, who had just scored the only goal in Madrid’s 1–0 win, complained to referee François Letexier that he had been racially insulted by Benfica forward Gianluca Prestianni. In a statement, the European football governing body said a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed “to investigate allegations of discriminatory behaviour” during the February 17 tie, adding that further information will be released in due course. Under UEFA’s disciplinary code, Prestianni could face a suspension of up to 10 matches if found guilty of racial abuse. Television images showed an animated Vinicius remonstrating with the referee […]

Russian athletes: Ukrainian officials to boycott Paralympics

Ukrainian officials will boycott next month’s Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympic Games after the International Paralympic Committee approved the participation of a small group of Russian and Belarusian athletes under their national flags. Sports Minister Matvii Bidnyi condemned the move as “outrageous”, arguing that allowing the symbols of countries waging war on Ukraine onto the Paralympic stage effectively endorses aggression and Kremlin propaganda. Under the IPC decision, six Russian and four Belarusian athletes will compete at the Games in Italy, marking the first time since the 2014 Sochi Paralympics that the Russian flag will be flown at a Paralympic event. Russia and Belarus had been largely excluded from international para sport following Moscow’s full scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but member federations voted in September 2025 to lift their partial suspensions and restore full membership rights. Kyiv responded by […]
