GRA Probes Alleged Extortion by Customs Task Force Officers in Ashanti Region
The Ghana Revenue Authority has opened an internal investigation into claims that some officers from the Customs Division Task Force in the Ashanti Region extorted money from an importer whose containers were headed for Kumasi. The allegations were raised by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana, which said the officers intercepted the goods, accused the importer of undervaluation, and then demanded additional payments. According to the group, the importer stood their ground, insisting the accusations were unfounded. In a statement released on November 27, 2025, the Authority confirmed it is aware of the concerns and is treating the matter as a priority.
