Lower Primary Teachers in Ashanti Region Receive Training in AI and Canva for Math Education.

Fifteen lower primary school teachers in Ghana’s Ashanti Region are being trained to develop mathematics teaching materials using generative AI and Canva, as part of an initiative by the Open Learning Platform for Primary Education (OLPPE). This program is designed to integrate technology into primary education, particularly in mathematics, to address engagement and curriculum gaps.The training involves educators from 11 schools and is supported by facilitators from the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. Project lead Prof. Richard Boateng expressed optimism that the government might incorporate some of the materials into the national curriculum.The program, funded by CERES and the Jacobs Foundation, empowers teachers to co-create digital tools and resources that enhance student learning experiences.
