Abuja’s most controversial minister doubled down on his confrontational leadership Monday. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike proudly declared: “I take joy in stepping on the toes of so-called big men who think nothing can happen to them. I tell them: something WILL happen.”
🔥 Wike’s Unapologetic Philosophy
Speaking at an Abuja media chat, the former Rivers Governor explained:
“Most leaders fear annoying powerful people. Not me. My administration enforces rules fairly – whether you’re a street vendor or a billionaire.”
He slammed double standards:
“People expect me to punish the poor but ignore elite lawbreakers. Never! If you violate regulations, there’ll be consequences. That’s how we’re transforming Abuja.”
💼 The “Gored Ox” Doctrine
Wike referenced his famous mantra when asked about backlash:
“I don’t care whose ox is gored. Fairness isn’t selective. This principle drives our revenue reforms and land cleanup.”
📜 Ground Rent Crackdown Context
This warning comes amid:
- 💰 Strict enforcement of ground rent payments
- 🏢 Massive land ownership verification
- 📈 FCT’s push to boost internally generated revenue
- 🚫 Demolition of illegal elite constructions
“We’re sanitizing Abuja’s broken systems,” Wike implied, “even if it angers the powerful.”
