Suspects arrested for vehicle theft, gold robbery and galamsey in Western region 

The Western Central Regional Police Command is intensifying its fight against crime, recording three major arrests in April 2025 in connection with vehicle theft, gold robbery, and illegal mining activities across the Western Region. In Tarkwa, one Salifu Gariba was arrested for the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser (PC), registration number GS 1845-23, belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The vehicle was stolen from the residence of an EPA employee in Budo City in the early hours of 15 April. The suspect was intercepted the following day by officers of the Northern Regional Police Command at Kukobila, along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway. The vehicle was successfully retrieved. Gariba is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Only 35% of deaths registered in 2024 – Births and Deaths Registry raises concern

The Births and Deaths Registry has raised concerns over the low rate of death registrations in Ghana, revealing that only 35% of deaths nationwide were officially recorded in 2024. Government, GoldFields reach agreement on Damang mine transition

The Government of Ghana and GoldFields Ghana Limited have reached a transitional agreement for the operation of the Damang Mine. The agreement was announced in a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. It stated that under the new arrangement, a 12-month mining lease will be issued to GoldFields’ subsidiary, Abosso Goldfields Limited, while awaiting parliamentary ratification, which is expected in May 2025. During this period, GoldFields will resume open-pit mining activities to safeguard jobs and conduct feasibility studies to assess the mine’s reserves and future viability.
