New Ghana Armed Forces CDS William Agyapong promoted to rank of Lieutenant General

The new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Major General William Agyapong has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, a Three-Star General level. MahamaCares fund to support specialist care for younger Ghanaians living with chronic diseases

The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the newly launched Ghana Medical Trust Fund also referred to as the MahamaCares initiative, will prioritise specialist care for Ghanaians aged 18 to 45, the age group most affected by chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Mr Akandoh made the announcement at the launch of the fund in Accra on Tuesday, April 29 2025. Six dead in Adansi Dompoase crash involving VIP bus and sprinter

In a statement issued by the Ashanti Region Public Relations Office, the GNFS said it received a distress call at 12:43 pm and swiftly dispatched a rescue team to the scene. The rescue operation, led by ADOII Samuel Mensah, found a VIP bus (registration GW 8455-23) and a Benz Sprinter (registration GS 6383-20) involved in the collision. According to the GNFS, the Sprinter was completely mangled from the rear, while the VIP bus sustained partial damage to its front. The statement added that rescue operations were completed by 1:28 pm, with six deceased victims handed over to the Police. One injured person was transported to the Fomena Government Hospital for emergency treatment. The cause of the accident, the GNFS noted, remains under investigation.

Suspects arrested for vehicle theft, gold robbery and galamsey in Western region 

The Western Central Regional Police Command is intensifying its fight against crime, recording three major arrests in April 2025 in connection with vehicle theft, gold robbery, and illegal mining activities across the Western Region. In Tarkwa, one Salifu Gariba was arrested for the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser (PC), registration number GS 1845-23, belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The vehicle was stolen from the residence of an EPA employee in Budo City in the early hours of 15 April. The suspect was intercepted the following day by officers of the Northern Regional Police Command at Kukobila, along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway. The vehicle was successfully retrieved. Gariba is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Atlantic Lithium appeals to government to help save Ghana’s first lithium mine

The company, which has invested approximately $70 million since 2016, is developing what would be Ghana’s first lithium mine.  The project, located near Mankessim in the Central Region, was expected to place Ghana among the world’s top 10 spodumene concentrate producers. Passport fee reduction to take effect after Parliamentary approval – Minister

Although the government had announced a 30 per cent cut in the cost of an ordinary passport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, clarified in a Facebook post that the new fee will only take effect when Parliament reconvenes. The revised fee is part of a broader set of passport reforms scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28, 2025, but the price change remains subject to legislative approval. Mr Ablakwa had earlier informed Parliament on March 13, 2025, that the reduction was in response to public concerns over affordability.
