NPP Accuses Security Official of Military Intimidation Ahead of Akwatia By-Election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Director of Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, of deploying soldiers to intimidate residents ahead of the upcoming Akwatia by-election. At a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah alleged that Jakpa was seen in Akwatia with armed soldiers. According to Ahiagbah, Jakpa reportedly told residents to leave town before the polls. “This action is provocative,” Ahiagbah said, stressing that the Ghana Police Service—already set to deploy 5,000 officers for election security—was capable of maintaining peace without military involvement. He further warned, “Any soldier involved in the Akwatia by-election will be considered and dealt with as a thug.” The NPP has appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama, in his role as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, to ensure that no military interference […]

Mr. Wumborti revealed that Ghana recently scored 89.89% in a safety audit, highlighting the strength and resilience of the country’s aviation safety system. He urged the public to remain confident in domestic air travel, assuring that preventive measures are always taken whenever warning signs are detected. “Our airspace is […]

Ghana–Singapore Trade Reaches $215m in 2024

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that trade between Ghana and Singapore reached $215 million in 2024, with projections for further growth as investments expand. Speaking at the 8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum in Singapore on Tuesday, Mahama said the steady rise in trade reflects Ghana’s increasing role in West Africa’s partnership with Asia. “Africa and Asia are the two youngest, fastest-urbanising regions in the world. We are complementary in resources, markets, and know-how. And the numbers tell a clear story: Africa–Singapore trade rose by about 50% between 2020 and 2024 to nearly $14 billion, with West Africa accounting for more than half of that. Ghana–Singapore trade has also grown, reaching over $215 million in 2024,” he stated. The President added that the expansion of Ghana–Singapore trade is part of a wider Africa–Asia economic integration, which is set to reshape global […]

Ghana Car Dealers Clear Air on Stolen US Vehicles

Following the recent crackdown on stolen vehicles, with over 100 US cars traced to Ghana, the Executive Secretary of the Vehicle and Assets Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG), Frank Atanley Kofigah, has insisted that car dealers are not responsible for the situation. He argued that the burden of responsibility rests squarely with Ghana’s port authorities. Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, August 26, Mr. Kofigah said the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) serves as the first line of defence in preventing stolen cars from entering the country. “What we are saying is that the Customs Divisions of the Ghana Revenue Authority are the gatekeepers to ensure that these (stolen) vehicles do not even get into this country in the first place because the theft did not happen on our grounds; it happened in a […]

Mahama Unveils 24-Hour Economy Strategy to Attract Global Investors

President John Dramani Mahama has told international investors that Ghana is “open for business round the clock” as the government rolls out its ambitious 24-hour economy agenda. Speaking at the 8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum on Tuesday, August 26, Mahama said the initiative is built on three key pillars: productivity, exports, and job creation. “Our economic strategy is anchored in productivity, exports, and jobs. We call it the 24-hour economy for a reason. Ghana is open for business 24 hours a day,” he told participants. Mahama explained that the government is investing heavily in infrastructure, incentives, and skills development to support businesses that want to operate both day and night. This includes opportunities for factories, farms, service centres, and even sports facilities to run on a 24/7 basis. At the heart of this vision is the Volta Economic Corridor, described as […]

Aniwaba Slams Acheampong Over Tribal Comments in NPP

The Assistant Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aniwaba K.B. Jeremiah, has strongly condemned recent remarks by Abetifi MP and flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, linking the party’s 2024 electoral defeat to so-called “tribal dynamics” around Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy. In a statement, Mr. Aniwaba described the comments as “unguided and inappropriate,” arguing that they undermine the NPP’s core values of unity, tolerance, and maturity. He urged the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) to call Dr. Acheampong to order and demanded an unqualified apology to both Ghanaians and the party’s grassroots. Aniwaba cautioned that such divisive utterances risk eroding grassroots confidence and weakening party cohesion.“The NPP has always drawn strength from inclusivity, embracing citizens from all regions and backgrounds. Any statement that seeks to divide us along ethnic lines is counterproductive and detrimental […]

Ghana’s Low Insurance Penetration Weakens Sector

Ghana’s insurance sector is facing mounting pressure as persistently low penetration cripples its ability to pay claims promptly and build public trust. Abuakwa South MP, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, warns that without broader participation, the industry risks a cycle of mistrust that weakens growth. “Insurance thrives on the principle of large numbers,” Dr. Agyemang explained during an interview on Adom TV’s Evening News. “When many people contribute, the pool can easily pay the few who make claims. But when participation is low, even routine claims become a burden.” To illustrate, he likened the situation to flipping a coin: thousands of flips produce predictable results, but just a handful yield erratic outcomes. “Insurance works the same way—the larger the pool, the steadier the payouts,” he noted. The MP cautioned that weak uptake makes it harder for insurers to build strong, diversified portfolios. […]
