Forestry Commission Boosts Training to Fight Illegal Mining

The Forestry Commission is taking steps to address the shortage of frontline technical staff, which has hampered efforts in combating illegal mining and forest degradation across the country. In recent years, the Commission has struggled with a lack of technical expertise in natural resource management, undermining its ability to protect forest reserves effectively. Acting CEO of the Commission, Dr. Hugh Brown, said technical experts are critical in coordinating protection efforts. “We have rapid response teams and forest guards. The rapid response team is led by the technical staff, so they will coordinate efforts to protect our forest reserves,” he noted. CSA Warns of Fake Brand Listings on Google Maps & Search

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a strong warning to the public about a rising wave of scams involving fake business listings on Google Maps and Google Search. According to the CSA, cybercriminals are impersonating well-known brands such as Pizza Hut, Pizzaman/Chickenman, Hisense, Bel Aqua, Papaye, and Burger King by creating fraudulent business profiles online. These fake listings often include misleading phone numbers, emails, and websites. Unsuspecting customers who engage with these contacts risk being tricked into sharing sensitive information such as PINs and one-time passwords (OTPs), which are then exploited to steal money or payments. Youth Minister Warns of Drug Abuse Crisis in Universities

The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has raised serious concerns over the growing rate of drug abuse among students in universities and colleges across Ghana. Speaking at the JoyNews dialogue on Thursday, August 28, themed “Breaking the Chains: Ghana’s Opioid Crisis,” Mr. Opare Addo revealed alarming statistics on substance use in tertiary institutions. Ghana Water Ltd. Shuts Down Kpong Plant for Repairs

Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Kpong Treatment Plant following damage to its raw water transmission pipeline on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The emergency repair works, expected to last three days, will disrupt water supply to the entire Tema Metropolis and parts of Accra, including Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, East Legon, and nearby communities.
