KNUST Students Pay Tribute to Murdered Coursemate Joana Yabani

What was meant to be a joyful celebration of four years of dedication and resilience turned into a bittersweet moment for final-year Biological Science students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The class ended their academic journey with a symbolic group photograph marked with the initials “J.Y” in memory of their late colleague, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, who was murdered last semester. Her body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre and pronounced dead at the University Health Services. Ghana’s Inflation Drops to 11.5%, Lowest Since 2021

Ghana’s annual inflation rate continued its downward trend in August, easing to 11.5% from 12.1% in July. This marks the eighth consecutive month of decline and the lowest level since October 2021, according to the Ghana Statistical Service. Both food and non-food prices slowed during the month, though food remains the largest contributor to inflation. The West African nation — a major producer of gold, cocoa, and oil — is gradually recovering from its worst economic crisis in decades. The local cedi currency has strengthened by more than 20% against the U.S. dollar so far this year. In July, the Bank of Ghana signaled confidence in the improving outlook by slashing its key policy rate to 25%, a record cut of 300 basis points. Government officials say they remain optimistic about meeting their end-of-year inflation target of 11.9%, and possibly […]

More than 100 people have been prosecuted in the Krachi East municipality of the Oti Region for flouting sanitation by-laws. The crackdown follows a surge in typhoid fever cases in the region, with over 23,000 infections recorded in the first half of 2025, largely traced to poor hygiene and unsafe water sources. Regional Environmental Health Prosecutor Patrick K. Gbafa said the prosecutions are intended to protect public health, not merely punish. Offenders received fines between GH¢600 and GH¢840.44, while landlords without toilet facilities were ordered to provide them within three months or risk prosecution. Magistrate Alhassan Dramani, who recently recovered from typhoid, cautioned residents to take sanitation seriously. The […]
