Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested three suspects and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a clearance operation in Benue State. The suspects were picked up in the Agasha general area as part of pre–farming season security operations in the North Central zone.
Spokesman of Operation Whirl Stroke, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, said troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion XI acted on credible intelligence about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. On arrival, they swiftly cordoned off the location and arrested three men: Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, and Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos.
Items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 27 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, 10 sachets of alcohol and assorted charms. The suspects are in military custody for preliminary investigation and will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution.
Zubairu said troops will maintain aggressive operations across the Joint Operations Area to deny criminal elements freedom of action and secure communities ahead of the farming season. He quoted the Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, as commending the troops for their professionalism, resilience and sacrifices in protecting law-abiding citizens.
