All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, says President Bola Tinubu’s foreign travels and meetings with world leaders have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s global partnerships and attracted major investment commitments.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said Tinubu’s trips are “purposeful actions” focused on economic cooperation, trade expansion and strategic alliances, not mere ceremonial visits. He noted that since taking office in May 2023, the president has visited key countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, including the US, UK, France, Germany, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brazil.
According to Yilwatda, these engagements have helped reposition Nigeria on the global stage and yielded “sustained diplomatic and economic outreach” with measurable gains. He stated that Nigeria has secured over 50 billion dollars in foreign direct investment commitments across sectors such as energy, manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, technology and infrastructure.
“These are not promises on paper. These commitments represent real capital flows, job creation opportunities and technology transfers that strengthen our economy,” he said, praising Tinubu for negotiating agreements that prioritise growth and sustainable development.
He cited the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates as one of the recent diplomatic milestones, saying it is designed to deepen trade, investment and cooperation in key areas like energy and agriculture.
Yilwatda dismissed critics who describe Tinubu’s international travels as excessive or unnecessary, calling such views short sighted and blind to the broader reform agenda the administration is pursuing. “Those who focus on the cost without recognising the returns are missing the bigger picture,” he argued, insisting that the president’s reform programme is “bold, strategic and necessary.”
He urged Nigerians to support the government’s efforts with patience, expressing confidence that the benefits of these engagements will increasingly be felt across the economy and in citizens’ daily lives.
According to him, Tinubu has shown both the vision and determination to implement tough reforms, from economic policy shifts to institutional strengthening, all aimed at transforming the economy and improving living standards. “Now is not the time for cynicism but for unity and constructive support,” Yilwatda said, adding that APC remains committed to ensuring global partnerships translate into concrete gains in growth, jobs and shared prosperity.
