Tinubu Appeals to APC Leaders: “Be Fair, Stay Calm, Prioritise Unity”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a direct appeal to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be fair and just, rise above sentiment, and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants as the party’s nationwide primaries kick off ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking in an official statement on the commencement of APC primaries, the President and party leader urged governors, party officials, delegates and aspirants to uphold peace, fairness and discipline throughout the election process. He specifically directed governors and party leaders to give all candidates equal opportunity without let or hindrance, a move widely seen as an attempt to curb accusations of candidate imposition and manipulation. Tinubu encouraged consensus arrangements where possible, arguing that negotiated agreements can help preserve unity and reduce unnecessary internal conflict. At the same time, he acknowledged that many contests […]

2027: Obi–Kwankwaso Bid Faces Northern Resistance

Moves to float a joint 2027 presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are already running into stiff resistance from key northern stakeholders. While support groups have been promoting an Obi–Kwankwaso alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or a new platform, many northern leaders say they remain unconvinced about the project and its chances. Northern elders and youth groups argue that Obi still suffers a trust deficit in parts of the region, with some politicians repeatedly linking him to alleged sympathy for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) – a charge his camp has consistently denied. They also insist that his 2023 performance in core northern states shows he has a lot of ground to cover despite strong youth enthusiasm and social media visibility. There are also complaints that the proposed platform for the alliance is […]

Speaking to journalists, the former SGF expressed growing dissatisfaction with the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suggesting that the government has not delivered on key promises. He questioned Tinubu's leadership, asking rhetorically, "So you valued being VP this much?" in reference to the presidency's perceived betrayal of promises made during the campaign. Lawal's consideration of Sowore comes after the activist was officially confirmed as the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for the 2027 presidential election. Sowore has promised a new direction for Nigeria, promising to change the APC's rule […]

Tambuwal: ADC structure not built for Atiku, defends coalition exits

Former Sokoto State governor and Sokoto South senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is not a party whose structure was built for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any single politician. Speaking on a Channels Television programme, he dismissed claims that the ADC had been hijacked to serve Atiku’s presidential ambition ahead of 2027. Tambuwal explained that the ADC’s ongoing coalition arrangements were designed as a broader platform for opposition forces, not a personal vehicle for Atiku. He insisted that decisions within the party are taken collectively by its organs and leaders, including chairman David Mark and other stakeholders, rather than being dictated by one individual. Reacting to the exit of key figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the coalition, Tambuwal said their decisions were “personal choices” and not evidence of a crisis […]

Fierce lobbying, tension as APC primaries begin

Intense lobbying and growing tension have greeted the All Progressives Congress’ nationwide primaries as the ruling party begins the process of selecting its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The primaries, which kicked off with House of Representatives contests, have already exposed fresh cracks in several state chapters. In many states, aspirants and their supporters are said to be locked in last-minute meetings with governors, ministers and other power brokers in a bid to secure party tickets. Reports indicate that hotel lobbies in Abuja and major state capitals are now packed with politicians seeking endorsements, funding and favourable word from key stakeholders. Consensus talks reportedly collapsed in a number of states on Thursday night after rival camps rejected attempts by party leaders to impose “unity candidates”. In some areas, aggrieved aspirants have threatened legal action or defection if they […]
