President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians, especially Muslims, to pray for peace, unity and prosperity as they celebrate Eid el Fitri marking the end of Ramadan .
In a message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president congratulated the Muslim faithful on completing the month long fast and called for deep reflection on the spiritual lessons of the season .
He highlighted the values of piety, sacrifice, empathy, selflessness and compassion, saying these virtues are essential for building a stronger and more united Nigeria .
Tinubu appealed to Islamic clerics and leaders to intensify prayers for the country at this critical time and asked Muslims to extend kindness and generosity to the less privileged, regardless of religion or ethnicity .
He stressed that Eid el Fitri is not just a time for celebration but also an opportunity to renew citizens’ commitment to national progress and shared responsibility for peace and development .
The president reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to promote unity, peace and inclusive growth, and urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and support ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the country .
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in his own message, congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to sustain the virtues of sacrifice, generosity and love for humanity beyond the festive period .
He called on Nigerians to embrace compassion, forgiveness and unity, praying for peace, progress and prosperity in the country and around the world .
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas described Ramadan and Eid el Fitri as a time of spiritual renewal and said the prayers and supplications of Nigerians are helping to preserve the nation’s unity and stability despite current challenges .
Abbas urged Muslims to continue to embody piety, charity and selflessness, and noted that both Muslims and Christians are observing major religious seasons at the same time, a reminder that Nigerians are one people united by a common good .
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said the end of Ramadan should strengthen the resolve for peaceful coexistence, especially in light of recent security challenges, including bomb attacks in Maiduguri .
He commended security agencies for their efforts but stressed that kinetic operations alone cannot secure the country, calling for more investment in education, healthcare, social protection and innovation as part of a long term security strategy .
Bamidele revealed that the National Assembly is pursuing legislative measures to tackle insecurity, including an ad hoc National Security Summit and ongoing constitutional amendments to give state governments a bigger role in security .
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu urged Muslims to reflect on sacrifice, compassion and resilience, assuring that the government and parliament are working to address economic and security challenges and improve living standards .
He encouraged the faithful to keep praying for Nigeria and to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, expressing optimism that the country is approaching a brighter and more hopeful future .
