Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen could be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a fractured right forearm in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
The Super Eagles star was forced off at halftime as the Turkish champions lost 4 0 on the night and 4 1 on aggregate, crashing out of the competition in the round of 16.
In a statement, Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen’s injured arm has been placed in a cast and said the medical team is still weighing whether he will need surgery.
A final decision will be taken after further examinations when the 27 year old returns from a short break granted during the international window.
Osimhen is currently in Lagos, where he has been seen on social media driving around in his luxury cars while enjoying some days off before flying back to Istanbul for re evaluation.
Prominent Turkish journalist Ali Naci Kucuk reported that if doctors opt for surgery, Osimhen is likely to miss at least six weeks of action.
Galatasaray also lost winger Noa Lang to injury in the same match, with the Dutchman suffering a deep cut to his right thumb that will require surgery in Liverpool.
Away from the pitch, Osimhen has slipped in the latest African market value rankings compiled by Transfermarkt.
Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo is now rated at 80 million euros, level with Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi as Africa’s most valuable players.
Osimhen is valued at 75 million euros, placing him joint third with Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo.
Analysts say Mbeumo’s rise reflects his consistent club performances, while Osimhen’s valuation has remained flat since his move to Galatasaray.
Despite the slight drop, the Nigerian remains the most valuable player in the Turkish Super Lig and his country’s highest valued footballer, ranking 41st overall in the world and eighth among centre forwards.
Transfermarkt’s Turkey area manager Lara Karacan described Osimhen as a brand, saying he is not just a player but a major figure in modern football.

JUST IN: Akpabio, Oshiomhole clash as Senate tightens leadership rules
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Edo North senator Adams Oshiomhole clashed on the floor of the Senate after the upper chamber amended its standing rules to tighten eligibility for top leadership positions. The changes are widely seen as reshaping the race for the 2027 Senate presidency and other principal offices. Under the amended rules, only ranking lawmakers with defined legislative experience will be eligible to contest for presiding roles such as Senate President and Deputy Senate President. The new provisions also bar first term senators and those without at least two consecutive terms from vying for principal offices. Revised Order 4 of the Senate Standing Rules reinforces a strict hierarchy for choosing presiding officers, listing, in order, former Senate Presidents, former Deputy Senate Presidents, former principal officers, senators who have served at least one four year term, then former members […]

JUST IN: FG bans honorary degree holders from using ‘Dr’ title
The Federal Government has banned recipients of honorary doctorate degrees from using the title “Dr” before their names in official and public settings. Under the new directive, the “Dr” title is now reserved strictly for holders of earned doctoral degrees and qualified medical doctors. The policy was communicated through fresh guidelines issued by the National Universities Commission as part of wider reforms on the award and use of honorary degrees. The NUC said the move aims to curb abuse of academic titles and protect the integrity of Nigeria’s university system. According to the Commission, honorary degree holders are no longer allowed to prefix their names with “Dr” based on such awards. Instead, they may indicate the honour using appropriate post nominal letters, such as D.Sc (Honoris Causa), after their names where necessary. NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu warned that […]

PDP crisis: Wike accuses Turaki, others of flouting court rulings
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and influential Peoples Democratic Party leader, Nyesom Wike, has accused Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and his allies of disregarding clear court rulings in the ongoing PDP leadership crisis. He said the faction has continued to act in open defiance of binding judgments on the party’s disputed convention and national executive. Wike insisted that a series of court decisions, including those of the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, have already settled the questions around the legality of the PDP convention held in Ibadan and the leadership it produced. He accused the Turaki camp of twisting and misrepresenting the judgments to confuse party members and the public. According to him, the Court of Appeal ruling delivered on March 9 upheld an earlier Federal High Court decision that the processes leading to the […]

Trump threatens higher level bombing of Iran if no deal is reached
US President Donald Trump has warned that he is prepared to order “higher level” bombing of Iran if ongoing peace efforts fail to produce a deal. His latest threat comes as ceasefire talks drag on and deadlines for a negotiated settlement approach. Trump has repeatedly said he will not extend the current truce indefinitely without what he considers a satisfactory agreement from Tehran. In one interview, he said he “expects to be bombing” if Iran does not accept the terms on the table, arguing that a tough stance is the best way to negotiate. The president and senior US officials have hinted that any renewed campaign would focus on destroying key elements of Iran’s energy and transport infrastructure. Trump has vowed that, without a deal, Washington is “going to knock out every single power plant and every single bridge in […]

Akpabio says ADC is dead amid fresh National Assembly defections
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that the African Democratic Congress is “dead” following a fresh wave of defections by its lawmakers in the National Assembly. He made the remark during plenary while reading letters from senators and members of the House of Representatives who announced their exit from the party. Akpabio’s comment came shortly after he read the resignation letter of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who defected from the ADC to the Labour Party. As more defection letters were tabled, the Senate President joked that lawmakers leaving the ADC should “just compile everything in one paper” because, in his view, “ADC is dead.” Abaribe, who represents Abia South, said in his letter that his decision was driven by “ongoing legal uncertainties, multiple court cases and leadership crises” within the ADC. He described remaining in the party under such conditions as […]

Arsenal reach UCL final with unbeaten run
It may seem unusual to say a team heading to a Champions League final has gone somewhat under the radar, but that has largely been the case for Arsenal this season. Much of the focus has been on their push to end a 22-year wait for a Premier League title, overshadowing what has been an outstanding European campaign under Mikel Arteta. Arsenal secured their place in the final in Budapest after a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final. A first-half goal from Bukayo Saka sealed a 2-1 aggregate victory. While the performance at the Emirates Stadium was not their most dominant, Arsenal’s overall displays in Europe this season have been highly effective. They remain the only unbeaten side left in the competition, recording impressive wins against Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Sporting CP. Their […]

Impressive Team Nigeria secure three World Relays spots in Gaborone
Team Nigeria delivered an impressive performance at the Debswana World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, securing three qualification spots for next year’s World Championships. With a largely home based squad, the athletes rose to the occasion and ensured Nigeria will be represented in multiple relay events on the global stage. Nigeria’s biggest highlight came in the mixed 4x400m relay, where the quartet of Samson Nathaniel, Taiwo Kudoro, Chidi Okezie and Patience Okon George ran a season’s best of 3:12.88 to finish second in their heat. That result was enough to secure a ticket to the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and underlined the country’s growing strength in the one lap relay. The women’s 4x100m team also secured qualification after bouncing back from an earlier setback. Following a baton mishap that cost them in their first outing, the quartet of Rosemary […]

Super sub Iheanacho delighted after firing Celtic to the summit
Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his excitement after coming off the bench to score the decisive goal that lifted Celtic to the top of the Scottish Premiership table. The Nigerian striker was once again the hero as his late strike sealed a 2 1 comeback win away to Hibernian at Easter Road. Celtic went ahead in the first half through Daizen Maeda, but Hibs captain Joe Newell levelled the game before the break despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men following Jamie McGrath’s red card. The visitors then piled on the pressure in the second period, creating chances but struggling to find a breakthrough until Iheanacho stepped up. Introduced as a second half substitute, Iheanacho made his impact in the 72nd minute when he calmly finished inside the box after Celtic forced another opening against the tiring […]
