25 dead, 14 missing in Yobe boat mishap
No fewer than 25 persons have died, while 14 others are still missing, after a boat capsized along the Yobe River in Garbi town, Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State.Authorities say the wooden canoe was carrying more than 50 passengers when it overturned on Saturday night, leaving only a handful of survivors pulled from the water by local divers and emergency responders. According to preliminary reports, the passengers were returning from Adiyani town in neighbouring Jigawa State, where many had been engaged in fishing, farming and petty trading, when the incident occurred mid journey.As of the latest updates, 25 bodies have been recovered and about 13 people rescued alive, while search and rescue operations continue for the 14 still unaccounted for.
