Senator Natasha breaks silence on FG’s withdrawal of criminal charges

Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to withdraw the criminal charges earlier filed against her over alleged defamation and cyber related offences. The Kogi Central lawmaker said the move vindicates her long standing claims that the case was politically motivated and aimed at silencing her. Court documents show that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation filed a notice of discontinuance on December 12, 2025, effectively ending the case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. AGF Says Senator Natasha Violated Law in Akpabio Case

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has defended its decision to file defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating her actions violated the Penal Code. The case relates to public statements made by the senator, including an allegation of an assassination plot against her. She argues that the AGF is abusing its prosecutorial power. In a newly filed counter-affidavit, the AGF's office urged the court to reject this objection. It stated that the charges were filed in the public interest after a police investigation and are consistent with Nigerian law. The prosecution alleges the senator made "harmful imputations," claiming […]

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2025 , the hearing was postponed due to the strike, which commenced on Monday, May 20, 2025 , as part of the union’s protest over unmet demands. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lead counsel, West Idahosa, SAN , confirmed that the case could not proceed as planned because of the strike-related shutdown of judicial activities at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court . A Trial on Hold Amid Judicial Standstill Idahosa had earlier expressed concerns about whether the federal government would proceed with the arraignment as scheduled. He reiterated that his client remains law-abiding and fully prepared to face the court once proceedings resume. “As a […]
