Confusion trails alleged kidnap of 172 Kaduna church worshippers
Confusion has trailed reports that 172 worshippers were kidnapped by terrorists during Sunday services at three churches in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. While church leaders insist that scores of members were abducted, the police and the local council chairman say no mass kidnapping took place. Christian leaders in the area, including officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria, say armed men attacked Cherubim and Seraphim churches in the Kurmin Wali area and took worshippers into the bush. Northern CAN leaders have put the figure of abducted Christians at 163, saying nine of the 172 people initially seized later escaped.
