US slams visa ban on Nigerians linked to anti-Christian attacks

The United States has announced new visa bans targeting Nigerians accused of involvement in anti-Christian violence and other serious violations of religious freedom.​ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the restrictions would apply to individuals who knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support or carry out attacks and abuses against Christians and other religious minorities, as well as to their immediate family members.​ He explained that the decision was a response to mass killings and violence linked to radical Islamist groups, Fulani militias and other armed actors in Nigeria, and warned that the same policy could be used against abusers in other countries.​ The visa measures are being implemented under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the US Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows Washington to deny entry to foreign nationals whose presence is considered against US foreign policy or security interests.​ Although the […]

The United States Mission in Nigeria has vowed to clamp down on corruption by barring corrupt, high-profile Nigerian officials from entering the country.
