Ghanaian Film “The Fisherman” Premieres at Venice International Film Festival.
Ghanaian cinema has achieved a significant milestone with the debut of The Fisherman, marking the first official selection from Ghana at the prestigious 81st Venice International Film Festival. Produced by Kofi Owusu-Afriyie of Luu Vision Media and directed by Zoey Martinson, the film premiered to a sold-out audience, receiving a standing ovation.Although screened out of competition, The Fisherman earned the esteemed Fellini Medal from UNESCO's Enrico Fulchignoni Prize, which recognizes films promoting peace and tolerance. The narrative, inspired by Martinson’s experiences in Keta, showcases themes of resilience and community, reflecting Ghana's rich coastal heritage.The film features a talented cast, including notable Ghanaian actors and is complemented by impressive cinematography, costume design, and an evocative score. Producer Kofi Owusu-Afriyie expressed pride in sharing the story with a global audience and highlighted the film's importance for both Ghanaian and African cinema.
