Iran drones hit US embassy in Saudi Arabia, cause fire but no casualties
Iranian drones have struck the United States embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in one of Tehran’s most direct attacks on American diplomatic assets since the current Gulf conflict escalated. Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry said two drones hit the embassy in the early hours of Tuesday, sparking a limited fire and causing minor structural damage but no casualties, as the mission was closed at the time. Witnesses reported a loud explosion and black smoke rising over Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, which houses several foreign embassies and international organisations. Saudi air defences were reported to have intercepted additional drones aimed at the diplomatic district, amid warnings that Iran is expanding its retaliation beyond military bases to industrial and diplomatic targets across the region.
