Buratai rejects ‘fabricated’ terrorism financing allegation
Former Chief of Army Staff and ex Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), has firmly denied claims that he is connected in any way to terrorism financing, describing the allegation as entirely fabricated and inconsistent with his record of fighting terrorism. In a statement issued on his behalf by former Army spokesperson Brig Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman, Buratai said the online report linking him and other prominent Nigerians to terror financiers is false, unfounded and a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his name. The statement stressed that at no time in his career has any official body questioned, investigated or indicted him over terrorism financing, adding that no security agency, intelligence service, court, diplomatic mission or oversight body has ever associated him with such offences.
