Iran sets new ship routes in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has announced new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, citing safety concerns over possible sea mines in the main channel used by vessels. The decision comes as Tehran agreed to temporarily reopen the strategic waterway under a two week truce deal, after weeks of tension that threatened global oil supplies. About one fifth of the world’s oil passes through the strait. In a statement reported by local media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps advised all ships to follow designated alternative paths to reduce the risk of hitting sea mines and to improve maritime safety.
