Military should have apologised after denying coup plot – Falana
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has faulted the Nigerian military for failing to apologise to citizens after initially denying any coup plot, only to later confirm that some officers would face trial over an alleged scheme to overthrow the government. He said people in authority must learn to take Nigerians seriously and correct themselves publicly when previous statements turn out to be misleading. Falana recalled that in October 2025 the military dismissed claims linking the cancellation of the Independence Day parade to a coup plot as “false and malicious” and capable of creating unnecessary tension.
