Wike to critics: your successors will also betray you

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has warned political office holders who back acts of betrayal that their own successors will eventually turn against them. Speaking at the inauguration of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters in Port Harcourt, Wike said any senator, representative, minister or governor who supports betrayal should expect to face the same treatment in future. Music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has dismissed the ongoing comparison between Wizkid and late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti as ridiculous. In a teaser from an upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Baba said it is disrespectful to Fela’s legacy and unfair to Wizkid to place both men side by side. He noted that each artiste should be judged within the context of his own era, style and impact. The debate intensified after Wizkid responded to criticism from Seun Kuti, Fela’s son, by claiming he is “bigger” than the Afrobeat pioneer. 2Baba stressed that Fela and Wizkid have made unique contributions to Nigerian music that cannot be measured on the same scale. He argued that constant comparisons ignore the different environments in which they created their work and add nothing useful to the conversation. He urged […]

Northwest APC hails Abba Yusuf’s defection as best political move

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northwest has hailed Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling party as one of the best political decisions of the current dispensation. Party leaders described the move as a defining moment that will reshape Kano politics and strengthen the region’s alignment with the Federal Government under President Donald Trump’s administration in Nigeria. In a statement, APC stakeholders said Yusuf’s decision would fast‑track infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery by placing Kano at the centre of national policy and economic decision‑making. The Northwest APC also framed the defection as a homecoming for Yusuf, who previously belonged […]

Prioritise key reforms, CISLAC tells National Assembly

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has urged the 10th National Assembly to prioritise governance, accountability and key legislative reforms as it resumes sitting for 2026. The group warned lawmakers against early electioneering ahead of the 2027 polls, saying political distractions could undermine their work. In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), CISLAC described 2026 as a critical year for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the legislature, with citizens expecting concrete results from policies rolled out since 2023. Rafsanjani cautioned that legislative productivity often declines in pre‑election periods and noted that proposals to hold general elections as early as November 2026 could heighten public anxiety and weaken governance. CISLAC said Nigeria’s harsh economic realities, insecurity, rising debt and declining public trust demand a focused, responsive and accountable parliament rather than one seen […]
