CAF opens disciplinary probe after Nigeria’s win over Algeria

The Confederation of African Football has opened a disciplinary investigation into incidents that followed Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals in Morocco. CAF said its disciplinary board is reviewing reports from match officials, security personnel and media representatives before deciding on sanctions.​ Tensions reportedly boiled over at full time, with several Algerian players and officials confronting referee Issa Sy and his assistants over disputed decisions. Witnesses said some members of the Algerian delegation chased the officials towards the tunnel, behaviour CAF described as unacceptable under its disciplinary code.​ The unrest also affected the stands, where some angry Algerian fans attempted to breach barriers and allegedly damaged parts of the stadium before order was restored.
