22 year old held for faking own kidnap to collect N1.5m ransom
Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested a 22 year old truck driver and two friends for allegedly staging his own kidnapping to extort N1.5 million from his family. The suspect, identified as Tobi Oluwatuyi, was reportedly declared missing before his “abductors” began contacting relatives to demand ransom. A police source said a concerned citizen reported the case to the Special Anti Kidnapping Squad after receiving information that Tobi had been taken by suspected kidnappers. As investigations progressed, officers uncovered evidence suggesting the kidnap was faked in collusion with his friends. According to the Ondo State Police Command, preliminary findings showed that Tobi conspired with two accomplices, Jubril Abu, 20, and Segun Oluwatuyi, 21, to stage the abduction.
