EU Launches Reality Show to Combat Youth Extremism in Northwest Nigeria

The European Union (EU) and Search for Common Ground have launched a new reality show in Northwest Nigeria to address youth vulnerability to violent extremism. The initiative, highlighted at an Abuja event, focuses on empowering young people in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto by improving economic opportunities, conflict-resolution skills, and social inclusion. EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot described the project as “a timely intervention” that puts youths at the center of shaping peaceful communities. The programme is based on youth-led research and aims to provide mentorship, entrepreneurship training, and peacebuilding skills. Coalition faults push for Sharia law, cites breach of 1999 constitution

A coalition of civil rights and faith-based organisations has condemned renewed efforts to expand the implementation of Sharia law in Nigeria, describing it as a violation of the 1999 Constitution and a threat to national unity and human rights. The coalition, operating under the banner End Sharia Now, includes groups such as One Nation One Law, Global Network of Christian Faith and Truth, and Love a Muslim Ministry. Tinubu approves N158bn to boost Nigeria’s education sector

President Bola Tinubu has approved N158 billion to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector, with a focus on technical, vocational, and digital skills. Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, announced the funding at the 42nd convocation and 50th anniversary of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. She explained that the initiative will train at least 650,000 youths in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), equipping them with skills to meet the demands of modern industries and the labour market. According to the minister, the approval reflects the federal government’s commitment to youth empowerment and national development.
