NDLEA arrests 93 year old man and doctor in nationwide drug raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 93 year old man, a 69 year old medical doctor and several others in a nationwide crackdown on drug cartels. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said the intelligence led operations were carried out across multiple states. In Abia State, operatives arrested 93 year old Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu at his home, where they recovered 7.7kg of cannabis, also known as skunk. He reportedly admitted that he had used the drug for a long time before turning it into a business. At Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, NDLEA officers arrested an Ivorian, Gohouri Michael, with 1.49kg of cocaine. NDLEA foils bid to ship opioids, meth abroad via Lagos airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has stopped several attempts by drug trafficking groups to export methamphetamine and opioids hidden in carton walls, winter jackets and body cream containers through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and a courier company in Lagos.​ NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said two drug consignments to Italy were intercepted at the Lagos airport and two suspects linked to them were arrested. One suspect, 37 year old Friday Ehianuka, who lives in Milan, was caught while trying to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Rome with 2,698 tramadol 225mg pills concealed in body cream containers in his luggage. NDLEA nabs China bound trader with 95 cocaine wraps at Kano airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 62 year old Lagos based businessman, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for ingesting 95 wraps of cocaine.​ He was intercepted on January 31, 2026 during outward clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Kano to China via Addis Ababa. A body scan showed he had swallowed illicit drugs, and he was placed under observation until he excreted 95 jumbo sized pellets of cocaine weighing 1.589 kilograms in seven excretions.​ Izueke, who claims to trade in clothing and auto spare parts in Lagos, told investigators he agreed to smuggle the drugs to raise money to complete his country home in Iwollo, Enugu State.​ NDLEA also reported a series of other recent operations across the country. NDLEA nabs 80 year old ex convict, finds tramadol hidden in full body mannequins

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested an 80 year old ex convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, for allegedly returning to the illicit drug trade barely three years after his last conviction. He was picked up at his home in Mmanta Abak village, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where officers found 5.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.​ Nkanta was first arrested by the NDLEA on December 14, 2022, prosecuted and sentenced to two years in prison for dealing in drugs.
