DSS witness: Rescued Abuja Kaduna train victims petitioned Tukur Mamu

A Department of State Services investigator has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that several victims rescued from the 2022 Abuja Kaduna train attack submitted written complaints against alleged terrorist negotiator Tukur Mamu. The operative, who testified as the sixth prosecution witness and gave evidence behind a screen for security reasons, made the disclosure while being cross examined by Mamu’s lead counsel, Johnson Usman, SAN. Asked if any of the rescued victims, including the wife of the Commandant in Jaji, lodged complaints against Mamu, he replied in the affirmative and confirmed the complaints were in writing. DSS lawyer David Kaswe urged the court to stop the defence from asking questions that might reveal the identities of victims or witnesses, reminding the court that an order for their protection had been granted. US never targeted me in Sokoto airstrikes, says Gumi

Kaduna based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed reports that he was targeted by the United States during recent joint Nigeria US airstrikes on terrorist camps in Sokoto State. According to him, two suspected attackers died after the explosive device they were carrying reportedly detonated before they could reach him, and the episode had nothing to do with the latest air operations in Sokoto. In a statement posted on his official social media page, the cleric insisted he never suggested that US […]

He warned that continued American involvement could worsen insecurity and undermine Nigeria’s national sovereignty. Gumi made his position known in a statement shared on his Facebook page. He argued that while Islam allows the fight against terrorism, such operations must be carried out by what he described as clean hands, insisting that the US lacks the moral authority to lead counterterrorism efforts because of its global military record. According to him, Nigeria made a mistake by allowing foreign powers to play a direct role in its security operations. He said foreign military interventions often come with hidden political interests and can lead to civilian casualties. Gumi also cautioned that […]
