SGF Akume explains why North-South presidential power rotation was conceived

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has revealed that Nigeria's North-South presidential power rotation arrangement emerged from consultations among political leaders seeking to heal divisions created by the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Akume, a founding member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), said the decision was reached after extensive deliberations by party leaders who believed a rotational presidency would promote national unity, inclusion and political stability.
