Nigeria born Ujiri joins Serena in Toronto Tempo ownership

Nigeria born basketball executive Masai Ujiri has taken a major step into women’s professional basketball by joining the ownership group of WNBA expansion team Toronto Tempo as a principal owner. He comes on board alongside tennis legend Serena Williams, who is also a principal owner of the new franchise. The Toronto Tempo, based in Canada, will begin playing in the WNBA from the 2026 season and has attracted a high profile ownership group. The consortium is led by Larry Tanenbaum of Kilmer Sports Ventures, with Serena Williams and now Ujiri joining as key partners.
