Retirement bombshell: Five DCGs to lead 1,516 officers out of Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service is set for a major shake-up as 1,516 officers are scheduled to leave the service over the next two years under statutory retirement. According to internal circulars issued by the service, five Deputy Comptroller-Generals will lead the exit, alongside dozens of senior officers across various commands and units nationwide. The retirement lists cover 825 officers due to leave in 2026 and another 691 in 2027. The notices, signed on behalf of the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources and Development, direct affected officers to begin preparations for their exit from active service. Israeli Military Sacks Several Generals Over October 7 Attack

The Israeli military has announced the dismissal of three generals and disciplinary measures against other senior officers after a probe into the failures that led to the deadly October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas. Those fired include key divisional commanders and the military intelligence chief, held personally responsible for failing to prevent the assault from Gaza—the deadliest in Israel’s history. While they had already resigned prior to the announcement, the dismissals follow public pressure and calls for investigation. Other heads of the navy and air force also faced disciplinary action, alongside moves against four more generals and additional senior staff. A committee of military experts found “long-standing systemic and organisational failure,” particularly in intelligence and decision-making, despite having high-quality information. The investigation concluded there were poor force deployment and leadership failures at all levels during the crisis.
