Israel Lifts State of Emergency for Communities Near Gaza

Israel has officially ended the state of emergency for areas near the Gaza border for the first time since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the decision on Monday, stating it was based on a recommendation from the Israeli military. The move reflects a "new security reality" in southern Israel, coinciding with a ceasefire that has largely held since October 10. The state of emergency had granted special powers to authorities to maintain public order and ensure the safety of civilians in communities up to 80 kilometers from the Gaza border. This is the first time these restrictions have been lifted in the region in over two years. The same emergency framework was temporarily expanded to all of Israel in June 2025 during a period of heightened tensions with Iran.

Ivory Coast Election Tension: Security Forces Flood Abidjan Ahead of Presidential Vote

Abidjan, Ivory Coast In the working-class neighborhood of Yopougon, the familiar aroma of grilled chicken and fish still fills the air at the busy Sapeurs-Pompiers crossroad. Food vendors shout over each other to attract customers, and the smoky scent of street grills drifts through the humid evening. But the usual crowds that stay out late are thinning earlier than usual. As night falls, residents hurry home, uneasy about potential election-related violence. Two police trucks remain stationed at the intersection, part of the heavy security presence that now defines daily life in the city. Since October 10, when campaigning began for this weekend’s presidential polls, these vehicles have become a permanent fixture in the area. The Ivorian government has deployed about 44,000 police and soldiers across the country, saying the measure is meant to guarantee a safe and peaceful election. Yet […]

CAN Accuses Presidency of Distorting Its Stance on Christian Killings

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has publicly accused the Presidency of misrepresenting its position on the killings of Christians in the country, leading to a dispute after a meeting meant to foster dialogue. CAN stated that it did not, at any point, dismiss the violence as a "so-called Christian genocide," contrary to a press release from the President's media aide, Daniel Bwala. The association insists that the persistent, organized attacks on Christian communities in Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt amount to a "Christian genocide." CAN expressed deep disappointment, stating that the Presidency's report was "completely false and grossly unfair." They clarified that their position remains unchanged and that the government's portrayal trivializes the pain of the victims. EU Lawmaker Alleges Christian Genocide in Nigeria, Govt Denies

A European Parliament member, Dominik Tarczyński, has raised a global alarm, alleging a genocide of Christians is taking place in Nigeria. The Polish lawmaker posted a graphic of a blood-stained Nigerian flag on social media, along with a video of a Nigerian pastor pleading for international intervention. In the video, the pastor claims that Christians are being systematically killed and calls on former US President Donald Trump for help. This accusation has been strongly denied by the Nigerian government. The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, has previously labeled such claims as "false, baseless, and divisive." The government maintains that the country's security challenges, which include banditry and terrorism, are complex and not a targeted campaign against any single religious group. It warns that such allegations oversimplify the situation and risk fueling dangerous divisions within the country.
