US sends 200 troops to Nigeria for military training
The United States has deployed about 200 troops to Nigeria to help train the Armed Forces in the fight against Islamist militants. The Wall Street Journal quoted a US military official as saying the move followed recent criticism by President Donald Trump over attacks on Christians in Nigeria. The report said the troops will strengthen Nigeria’s counterterrorism capacity through training and operational support. They will join a small number of US advisers already in the country who assist with intelligence for identifying targets for military operations.
