DSS, forest guards kill bandits in gun battle, rescue nine abducted victims

Operatives of the Department of State Services and Kwara State Forest Guards have killed three suspected bandits and rescued nine abducted victims during a fierce gun battle in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. The intelligence-led operation was carried out on Wednesday in the Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ejiu-Ora and Osi axis of Ekiti LGA, a corridor that borders Ekiti, Kogi and Niger states. The team also included local hunters and vigilantes who joined the DSS and forest guards in combing the forests for the kidnappers. Army troops rescue 18 passengers from sea pirates off Cameroon coast

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade have rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, after suspected sea pirates hijacked a passenger boat on the Nigeria Cameroon route. The attack happened on January 11 near Kombo Fishing Port within Cameroonian waters while the boat was travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon.​ Army spokesperson Major Yemi Sokoya said the pirates, operating in two speed boats and a wooden boat, seized the passenger vessel and abducted all those on board. Soldiers deployed to Ikang responded quickly to a distress call, pursued the attackers and engaged them in a gun battle.​ During the firefight, one of the pirates’ speed boats capsized, forcing the attackers to abandon the kidnapped passengers and flee into nearby creeks.
