Nigeria Customs Warns of Fake WhatsApp Auction Scams
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a strong warning to the public about a new wave of fraudulent WhatsApp messages impersonating its officials. In an official statement, the Customs Service alerted citizens to a specific WhatsApp number (234 814 732 3739) that is being used to scam people. The scammers falsely claim to represent the NCS, offering fake e-auction deals and "quick purchase" opportunities. The NCS clarified that this number does not belong to its National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada. It emphasized that there is no ongoing auction being conducted via WhatsApp, and no individual officer is authorized to sell items through private messages.
