Ghana’s PAC urges EPA to shut down petrol and gas stations in residential areas over safety concerns
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Ghana’s Parliament has called on the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take decisive action against individuals and companies operating petrol and gas stations within residential communities. The Committee warned that these practices pose severe safety hazards and could have catastrophic consequences in the event of a fire or explosion. During a recent committee session, Acting Chair Samuel Atta Mills described the situation as both “alarming and unacceptable,” urging the EPA to strengthen enforcement and protect lives and property. “The dangers in siting petrol and gas stations within residential communities are real and deadly in times of emergencies.
