CAF General Secretary Resigns Amid AFCON Dispute

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is facing a leadership change as its general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, announced his resignation. His departure comes during a turbulent period for African football, marked by the decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and the last-minute postponement of the women’s tournament. In a statement, Mosengo-Omba said he was leaving with a clear conscience. "Having dispelled the suspicions cast on me, I can retire peacefully and leave CAF stronger than before," he wrote. At 66, Mosengo-Omba had exceeded the organization’s mandatory retirement age of 63, drawing criticism. He also faced allegations from staff about fostering a difficult work environment, though an internal investigation cleared him of wrongdoing.
