Geneva Talks Resume as Strikes Intensify

Russian and Ukrainian delegations are meeting in Geneva for another round of negotiations mediated by the United States, just days before the fourth anniversary of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Hopes for a major diplomatic breakthrough remain limited. Moscow has continued to insist on sweeping territorial concessions, while Kyiv has rejected any proposal that would formalize the loss of its land. Fighting on the ground has shown no sign of easing. In the hours before talks began in Switzerland, Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault across 12 Ukrainian regions, deploying roughly 400 drones and nearly 30 missiles. At least three people were reported killed. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the scale of the attack demonstrated Russia’s disregard for ongoing peace efforts. Russian officials, meanwhile, stated that air defence systems intercepted more than 150 Ukrainian drones. Authorities also […]

Ukraine says deadly Russian strikes threaten US‑backed peace talks

Ukraine has accused Russia of undermining efforts to end their nearly four‑year war by launching fresh deadly attacks while Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. officials hold direct peace talks in Abu Dhabi. Overnight bombardments killed one person and injured 27 in Kyiv and Kharkiv, even as negotiators met for a second day to discuss the latest U.S.‑brokered proposals. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said President Vladimir Putin ordered a “brutal massive missile strike” on Ukraine while the delegations were meeting, accusing Moscow of hitting “not only our people, but also the negotiation table”. Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said discussions in Abu Dhabi were focused on parameters for ending the war and the future logic of the negotiation process. The talks come after U.S. President Donald Trump met Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the World Economic Forum in Davos and U.S. envoy […]

US-Ukraine Miami Talks Seen as Productive

US and Ukrainian officials have described recent talks in Miami as constructive, even though they failed to deliver a significant breakthrough toward ending the war in Ukraine. Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Ukraine’s lead negotiator, Rustem Umerov, issued a joint statement after three days of meetings involving European partners. They said discussions were focused on coordinating positions around a proposed 20-point plan, security guarantees for Ukraine, and a longer-term framework for economic recovery and prosperity. At the same time, separate discussions were held in Miami between US officials and Russia’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, as Washington continues parallel engagement with both sides. In their statement, Witkoff and Umerov said their shared goal was to halt the fighting, provide reliable security guarantees, and lay the groundwork for Ukraine’s stability and long-term rebuilding. The Miami meetings are part of intensified diplomatic […]
