Tinubu Wins APC Presidential Primary with 10.9m Votes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary after polling 10,999,162 votes in the nationwide direct primary. The primary election was held across the country on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with the result formally announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee and returning officer, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. He said a total of 12,643,306 party members were registered, 11,069,756 were accredited, while 11,015,665 votes were cast in the exercise. 12 Reps dump opposition for APC, ADC ahead of 2027 polls

Twelve members of the House of Representatives have defected from their parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. The lawmakers, drawn from different geopolitical zones, formally notified the House of their decision in separate letters read during plenary by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas. Most of them cited prolonged internal crises, leadership tussles and irreconcilable differences in their former parties as reasons for dumping their platforms. Those who moved to the APC largely came from the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party and other opposition parties that have been battling factional disputes since the last election cycle.
