The United Nations has warned that Israel’s strike in Doha, Qatar, has opened a dangerous new chapter in the Gaza conflict, with serious implications for regional stability and ongoing ceasefire negotiations. Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, told the Security Council on Thursday that the world was “shocked” by the attack, which reportedly targeted individuals gathered to discuss the latest U.S.-backed proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza. “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of any country, including Qatar — a valued partner in advancing peacemaking and conflict resolution — must be respected,” DiCarlo said.
