Israel has dismissed a new statement from Hamas claiming the group is ready for a “comprehensive deal” to end the Gaza war and release all hostages.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the announcement contained “nothing new” and reiterated that the war would only end if the remaining 48 hostages were freed, Hamas was disarmed, Gaza was fully demilitarized, Israel secured control, and a new civilian administration was put in place.
Hamas, meanwhile, repeated its demand for a large-scale exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the reopening of border crossings, and the launch of reconstruction. It also said it supports the creation of a technocratic administration to govern Gaza after the war.
The statement came hours after US President Donald Trump posted on social media urging Hamas to “IMMEDIATELY give back all 20 hostages” still believed alive, warning that “things will change rapidly” if they do not.
Israel’s defense minister confirmed the military is preparing “in full force” for an offensive to seize Gaza City.
Last month, Hamas signaled acceptance of a truce plan from mediators Qatar and Egypt, offering to release 10 living hostages and the bodies of 18 others during a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Israel has not formally responded, with Egypt accusing it of showing “a complete absence of will for de-escalation.”
Qatar said the plan was nearly identical to a US proposal by envoy Steve Witkoff, which Israel had accepted but Hamas rejected for lacking a guarantee of a permanent ceasefire.
Netanyahu has vowed to conquer all of Gaza, declaring the goals remain the defeat of Hamas and the release of hostages nearly two years after the war began with the group’s attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.
