EU Environment Chief Tests Positive for ‘Forever Chemicals’

EU environment commissioner Jessika Roswall has revealed she tested positive for toxic “forever chemicals” after undergoing a screening designed to raise awareness of their health risks. “Citizens are increasingly exposed to PFAS in their blood. I myself am no exception,” Roswall told reporters on Monday while presenting new European efforts on climate and environmental protection. The commissioner said some of the chemicals found in her blood are toxic for reproductive health, adding: “This strengthened my resolve to take our work forward.” Her team confirmed that Roswall tested positive for six of the 13 PFAS screened for, including three linked to reproductive harm, with concentrations in some cases exceeding safe levels. World Bank: Poor sanitation costs Africa $200bn yearly

The World Bank has revealed that Africa loses an estimated $200 billion annually due to poor sanitation, warning that the crisis is undermining economic growth, public health, and climate resilience across the continent. In its latest report titled “The Global Sanitation Crisis: Pathways for Urgent Action” released on Tuesday, the Bank said nearly two in five people worldwide lack access to safe sanitation, with Africa carrying a disproportionate share of the burden. NAFDAC Seizes ₦1.2bn Fake Malaria Drugs in Lagos Raid

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit malaria medicines worth over ₦1.2 billion during a warehouse raid in Ilasa-Oshodi, Lagos State. The agency revealed in a statement on its official X handle that officials intercepted 277 cartons of fake and unregistered Malamal Forte tablets, concealed in boxes falsely labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg. Investigations showed that the drugs were illegally imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China and falsely declared as spare parts in the shipping manifest. Oti Region Prosecutes 100 for Sanitation Offenses Amid Typhoid Surge

More than 100 people have been prosecuted in the Krachi East municipality of the Oti Region for flouting sanitation by-laws. The Oti Regional Environmental and Sanitation Taskforce brought the offenders before the Dambai District Magistrate Court on charges ranging from indiscriminate dumping of refuse to poor sanitation practices and open defecation. The crackdown follows a surge in typhoid fever cases in the region, with over 23,000 infections recorded in the first half of 2025, largely traced to poor hygiene and unsafe water sources.
