PTDF shortlists 746 South South applicants for foreign scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund has shortlisted 746 applicants from the South South for screening under its 2026 2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. Nationwide, the agency is interviewing between 5885 and 6193 candidates drawn from 38398 applications received for MSc and PhD programmes. The interview exercise, which runs from April 7 to 17 2026, is holding across the six geo political zones, with Port Harcourt serving as the centre for the South South region. Team Lead at the PTDF Port Harcourt Centre, Peter Egheneji, said the scheme is part of the Fund’s mandate to develop capacity for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry through scholarships and bursaries. Tinubu appoints Prof Shuaibu Aliyu PTDF chief

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. The appointment follows the resignation of the former head of the agency, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who left to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. A statement from the Presidency said Professor Aliyu’s appointment takes immediate effect. He is expected to provide strong leadership for the agency, which is responsible for building Nigerian capacity in the oil and gas sector through scholarships, training, research and technology development. FG opens 2026 PTDF overseas scholarship for postgraduates

The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Nigerian postgraduate students. The programme covers study opportunities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.​ The announcement was made by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on X. The PTDF said the scheme is for MSc and PhD candidates in fields relevant to the oil and gas sector.​ Beneficiaries will receive full funding, including tuition, return air tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance and bench fees where applicable.
