Why I wasn’t successful in America – Speed Darlington
Controversial singer Speed Darlington has explained that his 23 years in the United States brought him more legal troubles and emotional distress than success or money. He said his time there was dominated by arrests, criminal records and loneliness rather than the “American Dream” many expect. Darlington described America as isolating and racially biased, alleging that as a black man he constantly felt undervalued and pressured to overprove himself before getting any respect. He added that worrying about his accent and being mocked made it hard for him to approach women or build relationships, which badly affected his confidence and mental health.
