Man City battle fatigue ahead of FA Cup final clash with troubled Chelsea

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are battling mounting fatigue as they prepare to face a troubled Chelsea side in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. City are chasing a domestic cup double while still locked in a tight Premier League title race with Arsenal, leaving the squad stretched by a relentless schedule. Guardiola’s men were in league action as recently as Wednesday, when they beat Crystal Palace 3–0 to close the gap on Arsenal to two points with two games remaining. In contrast, Chelsea have had a full week to rest and train at Cobham, a gap the City boss believes could hand the London club a physical edge at Wembley. “After the FA Cup, we have Bournemouth, we play every three days. Chelsea have a week at home training, preparing the final,” Guardiola said. “We have to travel to […]

EPL: Arsenal seek to ramp up heat on Man City in title race

Mikel Arteta’s side ended a poor domestic run with a hard fought 1 0 win over Newcastle United last weekend. That result kept them three points ahead of City, who still have a game in hand. According to data analysts Opta, Arsenal remain slight favourites to finish the season as champions if they win their remaining matches. However, any slip up against Fulham or in their final three games could swing the momentum decisively back towards Pep Guardiola’s team. Arsenal have struggled to score freely in recent weeks, failing to net more than once in any league match since mid March. City, by contrast, have hit form at the right time and are scoring with far greater ease. After facing Fulham, Arsenal still have tricky fixtures, including an away clash at West Ham United that many pundits see as their […]

Man City host Arsenal in decisive title showdown

Manchester City and Arsenal face a crucial Premier League showdown on Sunday that could shape the destination of the title. Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium with a six point lead over second placed City as they chase a first league crown since 2004. Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said he is not bothered by criticism of the team’s recent poor form but admitted they must improve for what he called a title defining match. Arsenal have won only one of their last five games in all competitions. They lost the League Cup final to City, were knocked out of the FA Cup by second tier Southampton and suffered a damaging league defeat to Bournemouth. Their progress to the Champions League semi finals also came after a nervous goalless draw that completed a narrow 1 to 0 aggregate win over Sporting […]

Man City will have ‘psychological edge’ over Arsenal in title showdown – Rooney

Wayne Rooney says Manchester City will hold a psychological advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race because of their experience and composure in decisive moments. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster clash at the Etihad Stadium, the former Manchester United striker noted that City’s familiarity with winning titles under Pep Guardiola gives them a mental edge. He argued that Guardiola and his players are better equipped to stay calm under pressure than Arsenal’s relatively younger squad. “I think City will have the edge on that, just purely the manager and players they’ve got. They will be able to stay a little calmer than the Arsenal players,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show. He added that teams on a poor run of results often slip into a negative mindset that can damage performance. “When you go on a run […]

Man City outclass Newcastle to reach FA Cup quarters

Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to beat Newcastle United 3–1 at St James’ Park and book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals. Pep Guardiola made sweeping changes, rotating 10 players from the side that drew with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, yet his much changed team still had too much quality for the hosts. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made four changes of his own after their late win over Manchester United, handing match winner Will Osula a rare start. Newcastle started strongly and were rewarded when Harvey Barnes gave them the lead with a smart finish after being picked out by Sandro Tonali. The advantage did not last long, however, as City levelled in bizarre fashion before half time when Jeremy Doku’s low ball ran through the box and Savinho allowed it to bounce off his […]

Guardiola leans on Real Madrid history for new UCL clash

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will draw on their many past battles with Real Madrid as they prepare for another Champions League showdown with the Spanish giants. He explained that repeated meetings with Madrid have helped City understand the demands of facing one of Europe’s strongest teams and how to manage high pressure knockout ties. Guardiola noted that City have experienced both painful defeats and big wins against Madrid, and insisted those matches have taught his players how to stay focused over two legs. He described the new tie as another chance for City to test themselves at the highest level, saying that the more they play against top clubs like Madrid, the more they improve. The City manager added that his squad is now more mature than in previous seasons and better equipped to handle difficult moments in away […]

Guardiola says he is hurt by human suffering in wars

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he feels deeply hurt by the suffering of civilians in wars and violent conflicts around the world. Guardiola recently missed a press conference before his team’s league match at Tottenham after giving a speech in Barcelona in support of Palestinian children at a charity event. He has often spoken about issues beyond football and said he will not stop, despite suggestions that he should focus only on the sport. Speaking ahead of City’s League Cup semi final second leg against Newcastle, he became emotional as he described watching news reports of children being killed or injured in different conflict zones. He mentioned violence in Palestine, Ukraine and Sudan, as well as recent shootings by United States immigration agency ICE, as events that have left him angry and determined to speak out. Guardiola said modern […]

PL officials ‘don’t want’ Man City to win – Rodri

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has launched a scathing attack on Premier League officials, claiming they “don’t want” his team to win the title after a controversial 2–2 draw at Tottenham. City were 2–0 up in north London before the game swung when a goal from Dominic Solanke was allowed to stand, despite the forward appearing to foul defender Marc Guehi before scoring. Solanke later produced a stunning scorpion kick to level the match, leaving City six points behind leaders Arsenal. “I know we won too much and the people don’t want us to win but the referee has to be neutral and for me honestly, it’s not fair,” Rodri told Australian broadcaster Stan Sport. He insisted the incident was “so clear a foul”, saying Solanke “kicked the leg” of Guehi and the ball went in because of the contact. Rodri […]

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo from Premier League side Bournemouth on a five-and-a-half-year contract. The deal is the most expensive sale in Bournemouth’s history and was negotiated just below the £65 million release clause in Semenyo’s contract. Semenyo joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023 and developed into one of the league’s standout forwards. He scored 11 league goals last season and has already netted 10 goals with three assists in 21 Premier League games this term. Manchester City beat competition from Manchester United, […]
