Oyo abduction: Inside terrorists’ plot to stall rescue

Boko Haram terrorists trapped in the Oyo National Park are using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), landmines and diversionary attacks to stall rescue efforts for abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State. Security sources said the insurgents, believed to be a faction of Boko Haram (JAS) displaced from the North-East, have heavily mined the forest routes and laid booby traps to slow down or repel ground troops. The terrorists are also reportedly using some of the kidnapped children as human shields, making any forceful rescue operation extremely risky and raising fears of mass casualties if troops attempt a direct assault. Tinubu: Abducted Pupils Not Abandoned

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states have not been forgotten or abandoned, pledging that the federal government is deploying all instruments of state to secure their safe return. Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during a visit to affected communities, the President condemned the barbaric attacks and reiterated that the government will work with state authorities to rescue all victims. Actress Opeyemi Aiyeola Calls for Public Outcry Over Abduction in Oyo

Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has called on Nigerians to raise their voices and demand action following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The abduction happened on Friday when armed men on motorcycles attacked three schools in the area. The schools targeted were Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele and L A Primary School around 9 30 in the morning. About 45 pupils were reported kidnapped during the attack. The victims were taken by terrorists who deceived residents into believing they were security operatives deployed to protect the schools. Distress videos of the abducted teachers and pupils surfaced online on Sunday causing outrage across Nigeria.
