El Rufai demands answers over alleged toxic chemical purchase by ONSA

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El Rufai has accused the Office of the National Security Adviser, led by Nuhu Ribadu, of procuring an odourless and highly poisonous chemical substance. He raised the alarm in a letter asking the NSA to explain why about 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate were allegedly imported from a supplier in Poland. In the letter, which he shared on his social media page, El Rufai described thallium sulphate as a dangerous and tightly regulated substance. He said information about the procurement had reached opposition leaders and insisted that Nigerians deserve full transparency on the intended use. El Rufai asked the NSA to confirm whether the purchase was authorised, under which law it was made and for what specific security purpose. He also requested clarity on the storage, handling and safeguards put in place to prevent abuse […]

Workers protest at NAFDAC office over sachet alcohol ban

Workers in the food and beverage sector on Thursday staged a protest at the Lagos office of NAFDAC, demanding a halt to the enforcement of the sachet alcohol ban and the reopening of sealed factories and depots. They warned that continued clampdowns were threatening jobs, deepening economic hardship and undermining the welfare of their members. Security presence around the Lagos office was increased, but there were no reports of violence and mediation efforts between the union and NAFDAC were ongoing. In a swift response, […]

FG stops NAFDAC from enforcing sachet alcohol ban

The directive followed concerns that continuing the crackdown could harm the economy and worsen security challenges in many communities. The order came through a joint intervention by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Office of the National Security Adviser. Both offices warned that sealing factories and warehouses, without a fully operational National Alcohol Policy, could fuel job losses, disrupt supply chains and threaten social stability. In a statement signed by Terrence Kuanum, Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the SGF, the government confirmed that the National Alcohol Policy has been signed by the Ministry of Health under President Bola Tinubu’s directive. However, NAFDAC was told […]
